The Eucalyptus Tree program was a savior
for my children and me. They gave the kids
a safe environment with knowledgeable people to
have their questions answered and helped me to know
what to tell the kids and understand how they would
process their grief.”

- Tamera Bronemann,
            patient family member & volunteer

Cedar Valley Hospice Grief Support Services understands children grieve differently than adults. The Eucalyptus Tree program helps children who are grieving the death or terminal illness of someone special to them. Services of the Eucalyptus Tree program are available, free of charge, to children, their families and members of the community regardless of whether their loved one, friend or neighbor was a patient of Cedar Valley Hospice.

Grief and Death Education
The Eucalyptus Tree educates people of all ages about death and grief experienced by children and families. We have educational presentations available for ages Pre-K to adult, and will travel to your location. The Eucalyptus Tree staff is available to provide crisis support to area schools.

Parent Consultation
It’s not easy to talk about death and dying. Sometimes parents or other caring adults want information, resources, or someone to discuss ways to help a child. Our staff is available by phone or in person to provide you with advice, support, and information.

Youth Support Visits
The Eucalyptus Tree staff will help to address the concerns and questions of young people. We will design an informative and supportive meeting to address the needs of individual family members in an age appropriate manner.

Katie and Quincy Koala
Our mascots, Katie and Quincy Koala, will visit with 3-9 year old children, offering friendship, support and hugs. The koalas bring lessons and activities, helping to guide difficult conversations and promote open family communication.

The Tree House
A peer support group for children, ages 7-12, to learn about grief and memorialize their loved one in a safe, supportive environment.

Grief Mentors
Volunteer mentors share fun and educational activities, designed by The Eucalyptus Tree staff to help children with grief and loss issues. Children meet with their mentor in our office or at their school for 4-6 sessions.

Grief Counseling
Sometimes, children need more than support and guidance. We may recommend individual counseling, family counseling, or play therapy for your child. The Eucalyptus Tree staff will make appropriate referrals and maintain contact with your family, school, or counselor regarding concerns about grief and loss.

Events
Check with us to see if Katie and Quincy are available to make an appearance at any function, party, parade or gathering. Everyone loves Katie and Quincy, from preschools to nursing homes. The koalas are a soft and cuddly reminder that it’s always a good idea for us to take time to have fun!
